Project Echoes of Bathala GDD (Unscoped to Vertical Slice)¶
I. Project Overview¶
-
Game Concept: A 3D, persistent-world, "Play-to-Own" MMORPG. It features a high-octane, skill-based ARPG combat, the deep, player-driven, high-stakes economy of EVE Online, and the "grind-to-smelt" tokenomics of Mir4.
-
World: A dark-fantasy universe built from the ground up on pre-colonial Filipino mythology.
-
Logline: In a world born from the bodies of slain gods, thousands of "Anito's Heirs" must rise. They must hunt monsters, forge pacts with spirits, and master a brutal, player-owned economy where every treasure is a target. As the void-dragon Bakunawa awakens, players must build empires, wage war, and turn the world's divine energy into real value... or lose it all in the chaos of battle.
II. Core Pillars¶
-
A World Born of Myth: Every location, enemy, item, and system is a direct, thematic adaptation of Filipino legends. The world is the myth.
-
Brutal, Skill-Based Combat: Non-tab-target, fast-paced ARPG combat. Player skill (dodging, aiming, combos).
-
A Player-Owned Economy (The Mir4 Loop): The world's core resource, Perlas, can be ground by any player and, through a process of "Refining," be smelted into the $BAKU crypto-token. The player can earn real value.
-
A Player-Driven World (The EVE Loop): This value is fragile. The economy is governed by logistics, regional specialization, and high-stakes PvP. The player must defend the value.
-
Perpetual Conflict & Destruction (The Sink): To maintain value. High-reward "Void Scar" zones feature full-loot PvP and permanent item destruction, creating a perpetual demand for crafted goods and resources.
-
True Asset Ownership: The Character is an NFT. The Legendary Gear is an NFT. The Celestial Land is an NFT. Every significant achievement can be a tradable, on-chain asset.
III. Core Lore & Narrative (The Foundation)¶
1. The Primordial Creation Myth (The First War)¶
-
In the beginning, there was only Bathala, the supreme, transcendent creator (Source 1.1).
-
He birthed the first generation: Kaptan (Sky King) and Maguayan (Sea Ruler) (Source 7.1).
-
Their grandchildren, the four Elemental Gods (Licalibutan-Earth, Liadlao-Sun, Libulan-Moon, Lisuga-Stars), went to war against their creators (Source 7.2).
-
Kaptan struck them down. Their "deaths" created the physical world: Licalibutan's body became the islands, Liadlao became the Sun, Libulan the Moon, and Lisuga the Stars (Source 7.1, 7.2).
2. The Celestial Calamity (The Second War)¶
-
Before this, Bathala had slain a primal void serpent, Ulilang Kaluluwa (Source 3.2).
-
[Creative Liberty]: Ulilang Kaluluwa's "death" was not an end. His essence split and fell. His primal Hunger festered in the deepest ocean trench, becoming Bakunawa, the Serpent of Avarice. His Cunning drifted onto the islands, becoming Oryol, the Serpent of Manipulation.
-
The gods, in repentance, created Seven Moons to restore the balance, placing a Bathala Fragment (a seed of divine power) in each (Source 4.1). [Creative Liberty]
-
Bakunawa, driven by a mythological hunger for pearls (Source 4.2), saw the moons as the ultimate pearls and devoured six.
-
The goddess Haliya (Source 4.1) confronted her. [Creative Liberty]: Haliya's spear shattered the sixth moon as Bakunawa swallowed it. This divine explosion created the Perlas—shards of the moon's divine, silver light that rained into the sea, becoming the world's core magical resource (Source 6.2).
3. The Age of Mortals & The Divine Slumber¶
-
The gods, shamed and exhausted, fell into a "Divine Slumber," vowing non-interference.
-
Mortals (Sicalac and Sicabay) were created from a sacred bamboo shoot (Source 7.1).
-
They were born into a world overrun by monsters (e.g., Tandayag Boar) born from the chaos (Source 9.1).
-
To survive, they forged pacts with the world's spirits, the Anitos (Source 5.1), becoming the first Anito's Heirs. Their legends (e.g., Ibalon Epic, Biag ni Lam-ang) became the blueprint for the player classes (Source 9.1).
4. The Present Conflict (The Awakening)¶
-
Bakunawa is stirring. Her armies, the Baku-kin, are amassing Perlas.
-
Their goal is to build the Baku Core: a profane artifact to absorb the five lost Bathala Fragments from Bakunawa's gut, empower her, and give her the strength to devour the final moon, Haliya, and the Sun itself.
-
The playeres are one of thousands of new Anito's Heirs. The Divine Slumber is over. The "Divine War"—a war for survival, power, and wealth—has begun.
IV. The World: Geography & Security ( EVE Model)¶
The world (the islands of Licalibutan) is divided into three security-level zones.
1. Sanctuary Zones (High-Sec)¶
-
PvP: Disabled.
-
Includes: Factional Capitals (Amihan, Sinaya, Ibalon), starter zones, and key quest hubs.
-
Economic Function: These are the safe economic centers.
-
Sinaya (Sea Kingdom): The GLOBAL trade hub. Home to the Global Talipapa (Auction House) and the Central Baku Forge (the public, high-tax Smelter).
-
Ibalon (Earth Realm): The GLOBAL martial crafting hub (Weapons, Armor).
-
Amihan (Sky Isle): The GLOBAL magical crafting hub (Enchanting, Runes, Potions).
2. Contested Zones (Low-Sec)¶
-
PvP: Opt-in. Players can "flag" themselves as Mandarambong (Pirates) to attack anyone. Guilds (Barangays) can declare war, enabling open-PvP between them.
-
Includes: Most mid-level to high-level questing and gathering zones.
-
Economic Function: This is the Logistics & Hauling loop. All major trade routes between the Sanctuary Hubs pass through Contested Zones.
-
Death Penalty: Drop all held Perlas and non-NFT cargo. No gear damage.
3. The Void Scars (Null-Sec / Lawless)¶
-
PvP: Always on. Free-for-all.
-
Includes: Endgame-level "Void Scar" zones, the locations of World Bosses, and the entry points to all Raids.
-
Economic Function: This is the High-Risk, High-Reward farming zone. These zones contain the most valuable gathering nodes (Pristine Taklobo Clams, Corrupted Perla Veins) and the highest drop rates.
-
Death Penalty (The "Soul-Tear" Sink): This is the game's core economic sink. Upon death to a player:
- 100% Drop: All held Perlas and non-NFT crafting materials are dropped.
- Gear Damage (The BAKU Sink): 25% chance for each piece of equipped NFT Gear to become "Damaged." Damaged gear is unusable until repaired at a forge, which costs a rare, non-NFT component and a $BAKU fee.
- Gear Shatter (The Item Sink): 5% chance for each piece of equipped NFT Gear to be "Shattered"—it is permanently destroyed and its NFT is burned. This creates a perpetual, unceasing demand for new, high-end crafted gear.
V. The Player Character (The Anito's Heir)¶
-
Role: A fully customizable, persistent character.
-
Character-as-NFT (The Mir4 Model):
-
Minting: Once a character reaches Level 50 and completes a key story quest (e.g., "The Heir's Ascension"), the player can pay a one-time $BAKU fee to mint their Anito's Heir as an NFT.
-
Utility: This NFT encapsulates the character's name, level, appearance, and—most importantly—their Anito Pact (Skill Tree) Progression.
-
Market: Players can then securely buy, sell, and trade their fully-progressed, high-level characters on the game's official marketplace.
VI. Core Gameplay Loops (PVE, P2E, P2L)¶
1. The PVE Loop (Harvesting)¶
-
Dungeons (Void Scars): 5-player instanced content for grinding gear and Perlas.
-
World Bosses: Open-world, 40+ player encounters (e.g., Tandayag Boar, Tiburon) for rare, non-NFT materials.
-
Raids (Divine Warfronts): 20-player instanced endgame. This is the only source for Legendary NFT Crafting Components (e.g., "Haliya's Moon-Shard").
-
Dynamic Server Event: "Reinforcing Bernardo Carpio" (Source 9.1). All players must donate Perlas and materials to the Wardens of Montalban. Failure to meet the server-wide goal results in a server-wide debuff ("Licalibutan's Tremors"), temporarily increasing all repair costs and slightly reducing gathering yields.
2. The P2E Loop (Refining)¶
This is the core "Grind-to-Earn" funnel.
-
Grind: The player grinds 1,000,000 Perlas (in-game resource) in a Void Scar.
-
Haul: The player must physically transport this 1,000,000 Perlas from the Void Scar, through the Contested Zones, to the Central Baku Forge in the Sanctuary hub of Sinaya. They risk being ganked by Pirates.
-
Smelt: At the Forge, the player "smelts" the Perlas.
-
The "Divine Tithe" (The Variable Rate): This is the key mechanic. The exchange rate is not fixed. It is a server-wide algorithm based on supply and demand (total Perlas smelted vs. $BAKU supply).
-
Monday: 1,000,000 Perlas = 10 $BAKU
-
Tuesday (High demand): 1,200,000 Perlas = 10 $BAKU
This "Tithe" acts as the primary, dynamic inflationary sink for Perlas.
-
3. The P2L Loop (Destruction & Logistics)¶
This is the "Play-to-Lose" loop that gives the P2E loop its value.
-
The Hauler: A player (Manggagalakal) loads up a Carabao Caravan or Balangay Ship (slow, high-capacity, physical world objects) with rare, non-NFT crafting materials from Ibalon to sell in Sinaya.
-
The Pirate: A player (Mandarambong) forms a gank-squad in a Contested Zone trade route, destroys the Caravan, and steals the cargo.
-
The Escort: A Barangay (Guild) sells its services to escort the Hauler for a fee.
-
The Warlord: A powerful Barangay takes control of a Celestial Land NFT on that trade route, builds a Keep, and charges "tolls" for safe passage.
VII. The Baku Economy (Tokenomics & Infrastructure)¶
1. In-Game Resource: Perlas (The "Darksteel")¶
-
Type: Inflationary, non-crypto, unbound in-game resource.
-
Acquisition: Grinding (mobs, dungeons, raids), Gathering (clams, veins), Quests.
-
Sinks (Utility):
-
Primary Sink: Smelting into $BAKU via the Divine Tithe.
-
Secondary Sinks: Gear repair, crafting, fast travel, high-tier skill activation (mana cost), listing fees on the Talipapa, and donations to Bernardo Carpio.
2. Crypto Token: $BAKU (The "DRACO")¶
-
Type: Deflationary, on-chain Utility & Governance Token with a finite supply.
-
Acquisition:
-
Smelting (Primary): The P2E loop.
-
Raids (Endgame): Small, guaranteed drops from the final bosses of Weekly Raids.
-
Staking: Staking $BAKU at Faction Hubs for passive yield and Faction-wide buffs.
-
Sinks (The "Why" - This is the Token's Value):
-
Progression: Required to unlock the final, most powerful tiers of the Anito Pact (Skill Tree).
-
Minting Fees: The fee (in $BAKU) to mint Character NFTs and Legendary Gear NFTs.
-
Infrastructure: The purchase cost for Celestial Land NFTs.
-
Guilds: Required to upgrade Barangay (Guild) levels and declare Territory Wars.
-
Repair: The only currency accepted to repair "Damaged" NFT gear from PvP.
-
Premium: Used to buy cosmetics, mounts, and other QoL items from the premium shop.
3. The NFT Ecosystem (True Asset Ownership)¶
-
Anito's Heirs (Character NFTs): Buy/sell fully-progressed characters.
-
Legendary Gear (Item NFTs): This is the core crafting/raiding loop.
-
Raid Bosses (e.g., Oryol) drop a Legendary Component NFT (e.g., "Oryol's Cursed Scale"). This is tradable.
-
A high-level Crafter player takes
[Oryol's Scale (NFT)]+[Large $BAKU Fee]+[Rare non-NFT mats from a Void Scar]. -
This combination mints the final, usable Legendary Gear NFT (e.g., "Oryol's Scale-Mail of Shadows").
-
This creates three distinct, high-value player roles: The Raider, The Gatherer, and The Crafter.
-
-
Celestial Land (Infrastructure NFTs):
-
A limited number of land plots are sold as NFTs for $BAKU.
- A Barangay (Guild) can build one of the following on their land:
1. **Local Talipapa (Market Hub):** A local Auction House. The Guild sets the **sales tax** and profits from every transaction. 2. **Private Baku Forge (Smelter):** A private Smelter. The Guild sets the **"Divine Tithe"** rate for their forge, allowing them to create a low-tax haven (or a high-tax trap). 3. **Barangay Keep (GvG Hub):** A fortified base required to wage Territory Wars. 4. **Sanctuary (Private Farm):** A private, instanced farming zone for Guild members with high-yield Perlas nodes.
VIII. Player Class System (Anito Pacts)¶
The character class is the Anito Pact. The player choose one of two Archetypes, which then determines their Class Specialization.
Archetype 1: The Bayani (The Hero-Warrior)¶
-
Pact: Forged with a Ninunò (Ancestor Spirit) (Source 5.2).
-
Role: Melee (Tank/DPS).
-
Classes:
-
Mangangaso (Hunter): Melee DPS. Inspired by the Ibalon Epic Heroes (Baltog, Handyong, Bantong) (Source 9.1). A fast, high-damage, mobile class focused on boss-killing.
-
Guwardiya (Guardian): Tank. Inspired by Bernardo Carpio (Source 9.1). The ultimate "Tank," using shields and taunts to hold aggro.
-
Lihim (Duelist): Melee DPS/Debuffer. Inspired by Handyong's War with Oryol (Source 9.1). A cunning rogue/spellblade who uses illusions, counters, and poison.
-

-
Pact: Forged with a Diwata (Nature Spirit) (Source 5.2).
-
Role: Ranged (Healer/Caster/Support).
-

-
Kaanib (Summoner): Ranged DPS. Inspired by Lam-Ang and his magical animal companions (Source 9.1). A pet-based class that commands a "Destroyer" (Rooster) and "Restorer" (Dog) spirit.
-
Manggagamot (Healer): Healer. Inspired by Aman Sinaya (God of Bounty, Source 2.2) and Lakapati (Goddess of Fertility, Source 8.1). The dedicated healer/support class.
-
Mangkukulam (Elementalist): Ranged DPS. Inspired by Kan-Laon (Fire), Sitan (Shadow, Source 8.1), and Haliya (Moon, Source 4.1). A "glass cannon" caster.
-
IX. Bestiary (A Sampling)¶
-

-
World Bosses: A giant, island-sized Tandayag Boar, Bernardo Carpio's Mountain (a PVE defense event).
-
Raid Bosses: Oryol, the Serpent Goddess, Haliya, the Masked Moon, Bakunawa, the World-Eater (Final Boss).
X. Appendix: Sources & Creative Liberties¶
Notes on Creative Liberty¶
-
Pantheon Synthesis: This GDD combines the Tagalog creation myth (Bathala, Ulilang Kaluluwa) with the Visayan creation myth (Kaptan, Maguayan, Licalibutan).
-
Origin of Perlas: The myth of Bakunawa being scared by mortals is adapted. In this GDD, the goddess Haliya fights Bakunawa, and her strike shatters the 6th moon, creating the Perlas resource.
-
Origin of Bakunawa/Oryol: Their "birth" from the slain Ulilang Kaluluwa is a creative addition to tie them together.
-
Codifying the Anito: The general animistic concept of "Anito" is codified into a game system (Bayani vs. Babaylan archetypes).
-
Patron Gods: Gods like Aman Sinaya, Apolaki, and Haliya are framed as "Patron Gods" to differentiate them from the Primordial creators.
-
Tokenomics (Core Adaptation): The entire economic model (Perlas, $BAKU, Baku Forge, Divine Tithe, NFTs) is a 100% creative addition. It is designed to emulate the P2E tokenomics of Mir4 and the P2L economic sinks of EVE Online. The Bakunawa myth (her "avarice" for pearls) is used as the narrative justification for this entire economic system.
